Delicate Pen Wedding

BY jane, ON Thursday, June 30, 2011

In the coming weeks, I will post more adventures from our wonderful experience at the Licensing Expo, but I just can’t wait a moment longer to share a few wedding photos with you.

We usually work with future brides and grooms in planning their wedding, but occasionally we work more closely with the mother of the bride, even if the bride and groom are very much involved.  Such was the case with Pam,  mother of Leigh, who was engaged to Jonathan.  Pam was a dream mother of the bride, and we became very close during the planning process.  The wedding was an intimate affair held in Pam and her husband’s home.  Here are a few of the spectacular photos from Leigh and Jonathan’s wedding. Thank you Leigh and Jonathan for sharing them with me.

I love that the bride and the beautiful cake enjoyed a moment together in the most intimate of surroundings. The bride looks as though she is peeking out at her new future.  Or perhaps she is peeking at the arriving guests….or groom!

Glorious.

Suzy’s Zoo

BY jane, ON Tuesday, June 28, 2011

I have always loved sending greeting cards,  whether they be my own designs, or cards of another artist I admire. When I was touring with Broadway shows,  I always perked up when I would see San Diego on the itinerary. The artist of Suzy’s Zoo, Suzy Spafford, is from San Diego, so I knew I would have the opportunity to shop at Seaport Village and stock up on my Suzy’s Zoo cards and paraphernalia. My mother also knew I loved Suzy’s Zoo and I treasure a bookmark she gave me with a little ballerina mouse and the statement “Believe in Yourself,” which I have had displayed within eyeshot of my working space for more than a decade.

WELL……while at the Licensing Expo, as I was lettering names for passersby,  I started lettering a name.  S…..U……Z……Y!   As I wrote it I thought,  could it be? Would it possibly be Suzy from Suzy’s Zoo? I knew she also had a booth at the show, so it just had to be! Upon inquiring, it was!! I was so honored that such a creative artist, and someone whose work I adored, would come into my booth! We had a little chat and I did the most obnoxious thing, I asked for a photo with her. Suzy was every bit as lovely as I would hope the master of those adorable creatures to be.

Sing for Hope

BY jane, ON Thursday, June 23, 2011

There is so much still to share from the Licensing Expo,  but I will digress today to tell you about Sing for Hope and the Pop Up Pianos here in New York City.  There are 88 pianos, painted by various artists, that have been placed throughout the city. For those you not in the know-there are 88 keys on the modern piano, thus the number of pianos around town. Anyone can play the pianos and give an impromptu concert of 10-30 minutes during the two weeks the pianos are on display. When I heard about this divine plateau of combining art and music, my métier, I jumped on the band wagon!

I did a Pop Up Concert with my dear pianist friend, Bobby Hirschhorn, at the piano placed in front of Alice Tullly Hall at Lincoln Center this afternoon. I sang several songs from my CD, Moon Garden.  I will also do a piano mini concert Sunday, June 26th at 5:30 p.m. I will play Beethoven’s Pathetique sonata, the first movement. There is no charge for any of the concerts. The concerts promote the cause of Sing for Hope and will continue through July 2.

Greetings from EXPO

Greetings from the Licensing Expo!  What a wonderful atmosphere.  I am surrounded by gifted and generous exhibitors!

All Art is one Art

BY jane, ON Thursday, June 9, 2011

As you know,  I like to support the arts in general.  As the skies blacken here and the temperature is dropping 20 degrees in thirty minutes,  we are awaiting a thunderstorm. The moment reminded me of this youtube. Amazing work by this choir.  The director should be very proud.

Studio Project

BY jane, ON Tuesday, June 7, 2011

Some of you may know that we license many designs here at The Delicate Pen.  I will share some images along the way.  Our main licenses are greeting cards manufactured through Design Design. You may see one here.

I was invited to participate in the Licensing Expo that will be next week.  I will be doing demos in Booth 5718 and also debuting a children’s character that has been under secretive wraps for many months. We’ll unveil her (at least you know she is a she) on the blog once she makes a grand entrance at the show. If you are in Vegas,  come check out our booth! I have lots of ideas to share with all you manufacturers!

Baby birds

Here is a better photo of the little darlings.  There are three of them in there. It always gives me reassurance to see the circle of life.
